Three questions to follow up on Analog/Digital

1} When you record a singer, for example, is the sound entering the microphone analog or digital?

2} Is the sound coming out of your monitors/speakers analog or digital?

3} Is it a guaranty that the end signal will come out good from your monitors/speakers?

Well, think about them for now, we will talk soon! Please visit my WebSite at jcmixhomerecordingstudio.com.

The difference between Analog and Digital.

Two things come to my mind when I hear the words Analog and Digital. The first one is the word "Original", and the second one is the word "Copy". In other words, Digital signals are copies of analog signals, realized by an analog-to-digital converter. The converter measures the analog waveform (smooth) a certain number of times per second in Hz, to make various samples of it(to sample it in steps). The number of times per second the measurement is taken is called "Sample Rate", and the higher the sample rate, the better the signals. The tools used by the converter to do all that work, allow it to obtain as an accurate as possible copy of the original analog waveform. They are called "Bits" (ones and zeros), the number of which will result in good or bad resolutions. Obviously, the higher the number of bits (bit depth), the better the resolutions, and the better the signals. Think of it as a picture of yourself, which could be grainy or fine, depending on the quality of the camera used to take it. The standard for an audio CD today, is 44.1kHz/16-bit stereo format files, which means that the original analog waveform is measured 41100 times per second, using exponential bits, providing approximately 65,536 possible values of resolution. As technology continues to advance, this standard may change in the future. It is possible, however, to use higher sample rates and bit depths in your recordings, but keeping audio CD standard in mind (potential file conversions). To be continued! On this Memorial Day

The freedom that we gladly enjoy today, is the product of the men and women who served in the military, and died in combats. On this Memorial Day, let's take time to remember and honor them with all our hearts. Let us also thank those who survived, and those who are still serving to ensure that this freedom is well maintained, and lives on. Happy Memorial Day to all!
